Situated on 540 acres in Washington's Columbia Valley in a dry region east of the Cascade Range, the Desert Wind Vineyard endures a climate that is extreme. The Bordeaux varieties grown there, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, demand these fierce summer conditions. Summer temperatures often reach 110°F and winter days may be as cold as 14°F. With an annual rainfall of only 7"-8", the vines require irrigation during the hot summer months. The soil is rocky and shallow with excellent drainage. The vineyard was planted in 1993 by the Fries family.
Nearby, the 60-acre Sacagawea Vineyard is home to several of the grapes used for making Desert Wind's smaller-production wines, including Barbera and Sangiovese. The Desert Wind Vineyard lies at the foot of the Saddle Mountains. | We welcome groups ranging from two to 50 people, and offer an informative tour that will interest novices and seasoned wine veterans alike. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff specializes in providing our guests with a unique glimpse of the winemaking process. From our unqiue Southwestern style to our award-winning wines and tasteful gift shop, Desert Wind Winery is sure to please every member of your group.
Our beautiful outdoor riverview patio area is the perfect place for picnicking, sipping wine or simply relaxing. In the winter months, cozy up in our tasting room in front of a toasty fire. Our large parking lot offers plenty of parking and turnaround space for buses, limos or RVs.
