Baileyana, Tangent & True Myth is a family wine company in the truest sense. Our patriarch, Jack Niven, pioneered wine grape planting in the Edna Valley in the early 1970s, and today, his children and grandchildren are carrying on his legacy. We grow eleven different grape varieties, and make an extreme range of wines in a wide array of carefully focused styles. This allows us to showcase the diversity of our cool-climate, SIP-certified sustainable vineyard located in California’s Edna Valley, the historic Paragon Vineyard. Our tasting room sells 30+ different white and red wines from all four of the Niven brands: Baileyana, Tangent & True Myth, plus Zocker.

Our tasting room is in the historic Independence Schoolhouse, built in 1909. Browse our enticing shop stocked with gourmet foods and charming gifts. We have plenty of outdoor seating and a lawn area for blankets or your own chairs, with views across the vines from the valley to the mountains, plus two regulation Bocce ball courts. Our tasting room is family-friendly and leashed dogs are permitted outdoors. So bring a picnic or buy cheese, salami and crackers from us while you sip and enjoy the ambiance that is the Edna Valley. Outside alcohol and smoking are not permitted. Open daily from 10am to 5pm we require reservations for groups of 8 or more. Our last tasting flight and last bottle sale for onsite consumption is at 4:30pm.

Great choice of wines. The host was very knowledgeable about the wines and the area. The cheeses and charcutrie plate was delicious.

Quaint location with a beautiful, bright grassy area. The winery looks like a cute little cottage and the seating area makes me feel like I’m about to have tea time, but with wine. I went in and they took me to my reserved spot, and let us move to a more shaded table as well. It was relaxing and fun to guess what accents the wine had with our host.

The winery is super cute with lots of ambiance. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated at an outdoor table with not much shade. The pours at first were skimpy, but one in our group mentioned this and he did double pours (which were really like normal pours) after that. For the price, the meat and cheese plate that was included was not very impressive. The employee who did our tasting was great
