The Hess Collection Winery and Art Museum houses exceptional wines and world-class art. Reservations are recommended for wine tastings and we offer several exclusive experiences by appointment.
Donald Hess established his first Mount Veeder vineyard in 1978, from the beginning recognizing that on these ridges and bench lands, the potential for great winegrowing was clear. Deep, rocky, volcanic soils provide a home for vineyard blocks producing small, concentrated fruit that reflects the challenges of growing grapes at higher altitudes in the coolest mountain growing region in Napa, best known for Cabernet Sauvignon. The Hess Collection winery is part of a historic site where wine was first produced in the 1860's, in a native stone building hewn by masons in 1903. The original stone structure is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art that captures "two passions under one roof."The Hess Collection uses sustainable, environmentally-sound practices with the axiom, "Nurture the land, and return what you take." That philosophy brings with it a dedication to delivering wines that speak to their natural origins.
Overall experience was outstanding. Wine was delicious...will be joining Hess Collectors Club. The museum was wondrous. A great memory for my birthday week!!
We did the standard tasting followed by a tour of the collection. We thoroughly enjoyed the person conducting our tasting, Reid, and were able to try a large selection of wines that were in the tasting and that we were curious about but "off-menu." We also joined the wine club.
Very nice winery. A little bit disappointed in the wines, our first experience a few years ago was much better.
Beautiful setting; good but not great wines.
Great! Beautiful winery and our host was terrific. Would love a return visit...thanks!!
Beautiful property and great wine tasting experience!
My friend and I were passing through Napa on a last minute decision and called Hess bright and early. They answered prior to opening hours and accommodated our visit right away. The small bites tasting was wonderful! Everything from our lovely host Christian to the quality of the food and incredibly precise pairing was sensational. Loved it enough to join the wine program.
Gorgeous winery with art gallery and modern tasting bar. Loved trying wines from Mount Vedeer which are different from typical Napa Valley Cabs. Love that they blend with Malbec. Super chic wines but not Opus One prices.
We truly enjoyed the uniqueness of the winery and the staff was very professional and actually appeared to enjoy getting to share their knowledge with us. It was a very beautiful setting and definitely a place we would return just to try the new releases on our next trip to Napa. As we joined the Hess wine club, we are looking forward to enjoying the wine throughout the year
We had a group of 17 and they did a terrific job with the tour and tasting. Our guide was engaging and informative. The art is beautiful!
Wonderful time, great guide
Wines weren't memorable and I wasn't blown away by the place.
We really enjoyed the winery tasting. The museum was an amazing added bonus!
The guided Museum Walk was most enjoyable and informative and provided a very good value when combined with the wine tasting.
It was our first wine tasting in Napa, we have only been to the Finger Lakes area in NY. This was very nice, great location, excellent property, knowledgeable and torrent staff for our numerous questions.
Everything was so great, that I joined their wine club. Looking forward to my first shipment.
Chocolate and wine pairing was amazing. Highlight of the trip. Michael was a wonderful and knowledgeable host. He went out of his way to bring white wine as I don't drink red.
Really enjoyed the experience and great value. Sue was a wonderful hostess and took time to explain the art through artist's eyes. The contemporary art on display was brilliant and in an equally great space. The wines that we tasted at the end of our tour were lovely.
Worst tasting experience we had in Napa. Not sure why we made a reservation, it didn't make us any different from a walk-in. Servers were understaffed and slow. Wine selection is great.
Not a good experience. Showed up for our wine tasting last week & when we arrived they told us Winery was closed due to power outage. Woman at Winery took down our name and cell number to call and reschedule. Well she never called us back to reserve new date or time. Very disappointed with lack of interest on Hess' part. So we Went to Stags Leap and purchased wonderful wine!!!
