In 1996, Ron Melville’s desire to grow cold-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah brought Melville Vineyards to the Sta. Rita Hills. Today, Ron and his son, Chad, organically farm 120 estate acres, dedicated to growing the highest quality fruit possible, as well as upholding Melville’s tradition as one of the most well-regarded estates in California.
Under the direction of Head Winegrower, Chad Melville, our full-time vineyard crew nurtures the land, vines, and fruit in order to maintain the purest forms of each possible. Farming aggressively, yet carefully, helps encourage the vines to produce small amounts of intensely concentrated fruit. As such, all of the most crucial work is done in the vineyard with a holistic approach. In order to achieve the most unmanipulated and site-specific wines possible, all vineyard blocks are fermented in small lots and isolated through their entire period of elevage, which provides our team with an ongoing exhibition of how we can fine tune vineyard practices.
Guests are invited to experience our vineyard first hand and learn more about our commitment to “winegrowing” at Melville through three unique hosted tour experiences.
