Hey fellow wine lovers.  Are you ready for a sun-soaked spring break getaway? I don’t know about you, but with the sunny skies breaking through along the west coast this week, I’ve got serious spring fever. This week I'm diving headfirst into a vibrant wine country getaway.

Instead of several days jammed packed with seated tasting after seated tasting I decided to slow my roll and focus on a few select special wine events and experiences mixed in with a whole lot of fitness, nature walks, pool hopping, and some really great dining.

The first destination on my itinerary is Calistoga. Located at the northern tip of Napa Valley. I love the laid-back bohemian vibe and extremely walkable nature of this town.  There is just so much to take in from delightful cafes to charming boutiques and of course SPAAAAAAHS galore!

To kick things off, I will be heading to August Briggs Winery for their Malbec Day celebration! As a self-proclaimed wine aficionado, I can't wait to raise a glass to this bold and beautiful varietal. With its deep, rich flavors and velvety texture, Malbec has always been one of my favorites. And what better way to celebrate than strolling the darling town of Calistoga followed by clinking glasses at August Briggs' downtown tasting room?

From there it’s time to check-in to my home base for the next few days at the Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa. I love their cheery rooms with their kitschy aesthetic, bicycle rental and of course the pool that just screams SPRING BREAK! This little micro resort has it all from lushly landscaped grounds with quiet sitting areas tucked here and there, a full-service spa flowing with natural geothermal waters, and Fleetwood the fantabulous onsite restaurant which is most likely where I’ll be dining the first night.

The next couple of days are dedicated to some needed self-care, so I have booked the signature Mud Bake, Bath & Massage package at the onsite Moonacre spa. I cannot wait to sink into the clawfoot tub for a long overdue soak while I take in the retro styling of the 1880’s bathhouse inspired décor.

Next up, Bennett Lane Winery's Riedel Wine Glass Seminar! As if the thought of swirling, sniffing, and sipping fine wines wasn't exciting enough, this seminar promises to take my wine tasting experience to the next level. I've always appreciated enjoying my wine from an appropriate glass. But does type of glass really matter? Riedel seems confident that the shape and quality of a glass can really enhance the aroma and flavor of the wine, so I'm eager to put that theory to the test!

On Saturday, April 20th I’ll be putting the top down on the convertible and taking a scenic backroad drive along CA-128 and Alexander Valley Road winding my way to Sonoma County’s famed wine town, Healdsburg.  My heading is Mounts Family Winery for their Spring Picnic and Release event.  This promises to be a fun filled day of live music, savory bites and of course delicious wines.

But it's not all about the wine (although, let's be real, it's a big part of it!). I'll also planning to treat myself to some much-needed R&R. I mentioned pool hopping earlier, right? I’ll venture south a little bit to Napa where I will be checking into the recently renovated Meritage Resort & Spa.

The Meritage Resort is a fantastic self-contained wine country playground boasting onsite wine tasting rooms, multiple dining options, two pools, spa and exuberant night life at Crush Lounge.

Once I get settled into my room and drop my bags, I’m slipping on my flip flops and spending a leisurely afternoon poolside. With the sun shining bright and the weather warming up, it's the ideal time to sip on my first glass of rosé for the season. I can already taste the crisp, refreshing flavors dancing on my tongue as I lounge by the pool, soaking up the sunshine and savoring every sip.

Sunday morning, I’ll start my day with a morning hike through the property’s vineyard trail where budding grape vines and the chef’s seasonal garden are a welcome vision of the vibrant season ahead.  Of course, no trek along this trail is complete without a stop by the resident hen house for some good morning clucks and coos.  Afterward, it’s deep into the caves of Spa Terra for their seasonal Tropical Oasis facial where the scents of pineapple and yuzu are guaranteed to refresh my senses and skin.

I wrap up my final evening in wine with Earth Day Yoga at The Meritage Resort. There's something truly magical about practicing yoga surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. It's the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate my mind, body, and soul while soaking in the natural beauty of wine country.
