Ringing in the New Year has always been a big family tradition for us. And each year we do our best to one-up what we did last year. Well, I have to be honest, the last two years wasn't going to make that happen as we had some really cool plans for ringing in 2021 and 2022 only to get dashed last minute by travel restrictions. Doh!

This year, we're doing something different and we're going to be travelling further than we normally do to ring in the new year- though I did ring in 2020 in Key West and had a blast. For 2023, we could not pass up on seeking out the freshest pow pow (snow for the rest of us) and carve up the ski slopes. And since "Travel" is the #1 way to ring in NYE, we're nailing it this year.

Here's the Top 10
Share your NYE plans on our FaceBook page and provide some FOMO.

  1. Plan a Trip
Pick a destination that is at least 100 miles away and make an impromptu trip to somewhere you've never been.

  2. Spend All Day at the Spa
This for me is tied for 1st place as I no doubt love me some spa time. Book a massage, facial and of course don't forget to hit the sauna to release all those evil toxins from NYE.

  3. Go Out on an Adventure
Take a hike, go skiing- do something outdoors that's exhilarating. My favorite is go kart racing with a group of friends. Driver with best lap time buys first round of drinks afterwards!

  4. Binge Watch The White Lotus on Netflix
If you have not started, now's the time! Once you finished, book your trip to Maul where many of the scenes are filmed.

  5. Create Your Own Signature Cocktail for NYE
This is typically one of our favorite things to do during the holidays, but we were so busy, we've moved it to NYE.

  6. Reflect the Best of 2022
One of our family traditions is to write down some of the best things that happened during the year and drop it into a bowl as we go. Then on New Year's Day, we take turns opening them up and reading them aloud.

  7. Start Your Workout Resolution Early
This is one of the oldest NY traditions, but have to mention it as many of us, like me, put on some extra pounds during COVID.

  8. Host a Sparkling Wine & Sparkler Countdown
One of the funnest and makes for the best pictures are Champagne flutes filled with your favorite Sparkling Wine (or Champagne) and light up some old school sparkler fireworks. Outdoors this time, okay?!

  9. Write to Your Future Self
This sounds weird, but it's kind of fun to write to your future self. Is there anything you want to remind yourself (or warn yourself) in the future? No better time than the present to write down some goals and set some life milestones.

  10. Try a New Recipe
Me and the Vineyard Vixen love to entertain and host friends throughout the year. And we are always on the hunt for trying to new recipes or doing some variations (making them more seasonal) to our favorites. Since Tangerines are in season, have you tried making the Vineyard Vixen's Sticky Chicky?

Insider's Travel Tip

When touring through wine country this time of the year, be sure to dress in layers as local weather can start cold, then warm up as the day progresses. You'll find yourself shedding layers as the day progresses.
