Go the extra mile to experience Gustafson Family Vineyards, set in the beautiful rolling hills above Lake Sonoma. Escape the busy valley and discover Sonoma’s best kept secret.
In the spring of 2002, while driving with his family between Healdsburg and the California coast, Dan Gustafson, a landscape architect and real estate developer, discovered a hidden gem in the mountains above Lake Sonoma. He pulled his car to the side of the road, peered over the fence, and explained to his family that this would be a perfect place to grow grapes. Dan saw his dream of planting his own vineyard come true that year with the purchase of those 87 acres in the Dry Creek Valley appellation of Sonoma County.
Gustafson Family Vineyard is sustainably farmed with respect for the vines, the land, and the winemaking process. At 1800 feet above sea level, we are the highest elevation estate vineyard and winery in Sonoma County. Our unique high-elevation microclimate sits above the seasonal Dry Creek Valley fog, providing our vines with cool morning sunlight and moisture-free ripening throughout the summer and fall. The additional sunlight hours and warm summer days are tempered by late afternoon Pacific breezes from the Sonoma coast, keeping our average summer temperatures to a comfortable 85 degrees.
Our wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown at the vineyard. The lean, rocky, volcanic soils produce grapes with smaller berries and more intense flavors. Grapes are fermented in open-top bins with a cold soak of several days, manual punch-downs, and extended maceration. We seek to produce wines that demonstrate a consistent style while reflecting the nuances of every vintage.
Our Estate Tasting Room is open on Saturday from 10:00 - 4:00, no appointment necessary. Appointments are available on Friday, Sunday, and Monday between 11:00 – 3:00. We encourage you to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy our amazing views. Please contact our Tasting Room to schedule your appointment.
